My name is Charles Sherrard MacKenzie. I was a Bostonian who, at Boston University, studied philosophy under the teaching of Edgar S. Brightman. I was searching for the meaning of my life. Later in Boston I was influenced by Carl Henry and Ed Carnell who were doing doctoral work there and also teaching at Gordon College. While an undergraduate in Boston, I was drawn to the Christian faith. Subsequently, I undertook years of graduate study at Princeton (MDiv, ThD/PhD). Under the tutelage of Emile Cailliet at Princeton (PTS) and later Louis Lafuma in Paris, I was guided into the beautiful simplicity and complexity of Blaise Pascal’s thoughts. Across the years, in my quest for meaning, I often have agreed with Pascal and yet also have had times of deep disagreement. Yet, invariably, he has persuaded me and has had a powerful influence upon my thought and my life.
